One of the long awaited features on the iPhone makes its debut on the AT&T network today - Sept 25 2009.  For long, iPhone did not have MMS capabilities, something that was a given on even basic phones.

All that is about to change today !

MMS or multi-media-messaging will be available only on the iPhone 3G.  MMS will enable iPhone 3G users to send and receive pictures, contacts, audio files and gps locations.

This will in an instant chew up the bandwidth available as people start exchanging photos and other content - which takes a larger amount of wireless space- we will see as the days go by how AT&T's 3G network holds up!

How do you tether iPhone?

Tethering on iPhone is a way to get internet access on a device using some type of mobile device like you iPhone. You can connect your laptop to the internet using the iPhone to behave like a modem using either USB or Bluetooth connection.

Using your iPhone to connect to the internet on your laptop is useful.  In the US, AT&T does not provide this service so check how its going to affect your data plan and if it affect any warranties etc.. They say this service is coming in the near future, but of course there will be a charge. Until then if you want to tether iPhone 3G here is some guidance.

To tether iPhone 3G, you will need to download and install a carrier update file. There are multiple sites that you can find one of these for your iPhone 3G. Make sure you have the one for your country and carrier. Once the file is installed all you need to do is go to Settings -->General -- >Network and turn on Internet Tethering and select USB or Bluetooth. Now you’re all ready to connect your computer to the internet.

With this method you don’t need to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS to tether iPhone to laptop. You might use a lot of bandwidth and that might be an issue with your carrier. Check your data plan before you attempt to tether iPhone. Do it at your own risk, since you might get slapped on with some additional fees later.

Finding a Cheap iPhone!

The iPhone is the trendiest phone to have. Not everyone can afford this cool phone though. For those of us, who for whatever reason like to buy cheaper than the masses here are some tips that don’t include ideas to get your friends and family to gift you a new iPhone.

Look for refurbished iPhone online. These are a good buy instead of the brand new ones and they cost much less. You can even find certified refurbished iPhones at Apple’s online store. These usually come with a 1 year warranty. These are pre-owned iPhones that have gone through Apple’s strictly regulated refurbishment process. Most units are not ones that have been returned due to technical issues. The refurbished iPhone is fully tested, repackaged with all manuals, cables etc.

Used iPhones are another way to get one cheaper. Again look in classifieds or internet auction sites to find these. Folks selling their iPhones might give away all the accessories too. So this might be another way to save some money while getting on to the iPhone bandwagon. The ones that are unlocked go for even cheaper. Also to consider are the iPhones for sale without a carrier contract.

Some online stores that carry new iPhones might have promotional deals going on. These vendors are worth checking out before you commit to a used or refurbished one. Ultimately doing your research will help you get a new iPhone for a cheaper price.
